Spring Water vs. purified water: Which one is better?
What is Spring Water?
It’s easy to believe that the water comes from a spring flowing down remote mountains. Some spring water can be bottled directly from the source. However, the majority of commercially available spring water are extracted from underground wells that supply the spring. They are then transported to a processing plant where they are bottled.
Spring water, sometimes called “artesian” water, is water that flows naturally from underground reservoirs and rises to the surface. These natural sources can be found in valleys, on the sides of hills or mountains, or anywhere there is limestone (mainly). How can spring water be so pure if it comes from underground?
How is spring water made?
You might assume that spring water is dirty because it comes from underground aquifers. This is not true. As it travels through limestone bedrock, spring water undergoes natural filtration to reach the surface. The rock filters out impurities as the water rises. This is why springs appear clear and pure.
Commercial spring water is transported by tanker trucks to bottling plants. Therefore, it must be chlorinated and ozonated to prevent contamination. After the water has reached the facility, it is subject to a carbon filter process. This removes chlorine, sediment, and other harmful elements, while keeping the healthy minerals that give the water its flavor.
What is purified water?
There are many ways to refer to purified water. You can also call it “deionized, demineralized, distilled water, or reversible osmosis” because it has been thoroughly processed to remove dissolved solids and chemical pollutants as well as minerals. Purified water should not have more than ten parts per thousand (ppm) of dissolved substances. This is the standard.
Reverse osmosis and deionization are the best methods to purify water. These methods are good at removing all contaminants, including bacteria, chemicals and metals. However, water can taste bland if it lacks certain minerals.
What is water purified?
Purified water is water that has been purified to remove chemicals, impurities and other contaminants. This makes it safe for human consumption.
Reverse osmosis and distillation are the most popular and easily accessible methods of purifying water. An RO system can be installed under the sink to perform reverse osmosis. It also provides purified water to a designated faucet. These systems typically have RO membranes and filters that remove all impurities. Some units include a special filter that is used to remineralize essential minerals lost during RO filtration.
